The global bacon shortage projected for 2013 is a serious issue, no doubt! If anything, the projected shortage has strengthened my dedication to finding and consuming various forms of crispy fatty pork. So to start the year off in style I took on the tough task of reviewed the first episode of a new TV series dedicated to just one thing ... BACON. The new show, "United States Of Bacon" follows a chef across the USA as he looks for one and only one thing, awesome bacon dishes. Sadly I must report that the show was as good as a flabby piece of semi-warm bacon in a chafing dish served with free breakfast at a bad hotel. I won't even embed a chip it was so bad. Why? The host is totally fake and trying to be the next cool dude who does the 'in your face' foodt hing. The choice of places to go may be fine in and of themselves but not worthy of being highlighted as they are in the show. The production value is low and overall tone insulting to bacon lovers.
Instead I share with you some great bacon photos to soften the blow. The one to the left and first one below were taken by me of a round brick of pork cracklings (chicharrĂ³ns) I found myself mesmrized by in Madrid, Spain last year. Enjoy!
Sorry Cousin Michael...no vegan fare here...already too much of that stuff out there...I'm a strong member of the balanced healthy meat lovers tribe.

Ever consider raising one of your own? I bet you could find a willing farmer....and you would oh, so, LOVE the results....I just rendered our leaf lard and used the chiccaronnes (sp.?) in a Mexican dish....heavenly. (Never thought of making a brick of them....hmmm)
