On election day California voters were duped into voting against Prop 37 which would have given them the right–to-know if foods they buy at the grocery store contain genetically engineered organisms. Prop 37 was ONLY about labeling foods. That's it! Nothing about regulating what goes into the food.
Here in the US more than 90% of citizens support right-to-know labeling for genetially modified foods (GMOs) so why did the proposition lose? Simple! A torrent of misleading ads paid for by biotech and agribusiness companies as well by grocery store chains. So where does your grocer stand on the issue.Look at the poster below left to see if your grocer was for or against the right-to-know proposition. (Click on the poster image and you can see a full sized version.)
As far as the future goes there may still be reason to feel the fight for fair labeling is worth waging. Look at the poster below right. Even though Prop 37 went down to defeat the tide is turning and we
will eventually win the war over this most basic of rights, the
right-to-know what is in the food we eat. To learn more about ways you can help advocate for your right-to-know contact Just Label It!
